As of December 15, 2008 there are new regulations regarding work permits for qualified physicians from outside of the EU. This means that you, as long as there is a national shortage of manpower, could be given a temporary work permit as well as a temporary appointment as a medical specialist.
A person who wants to work in Sweden must have an Offer of Employment from an employer or client in Sweden.
In order to get an idea about available job opportunities, please check the jobsite of the Swedish Medical Journal - to the right.
The terms of employment must be equal to - or better - than those provided under a Swedish collective agreement.
The employer must guarantee an offer of employment and apply for your temporary license to work as a physician. You can download the Offer of Employment as well as the form for work permit from the Migration Board - to the right. The form for a temporary license to work as a physician (SoSB 45092) can be obtained from the National Board of Health and Welfare.
If you intend to work for a period longer than three months in Sweden you must also apply for a residence permit, which you apply for at the same time you apply for a work permit. When you apply for the first time, the main rule is that you should apply for and have the permits granted before you enter Sweden.
